The Secret to Life, Success, Failure and Everything Else

Everything in my life is really up to me

Is there a secret to life, success, failure and everything else? Yes there is. It is a secret that has existed for as far back as anyone can go. In fact, there has never been a time when it was not. It was there before the foundations of this world. Its truth is painted throughout the Holy Scriptures. It is the law of God operating in the life of every man and woman. It is so apparent and yet it has remained a secret for ages. In every generation, there have always been a minute percentage of people who knew about it. In our time, men and women, around the globe are working up to this reality. It is the last frontier to be conquered.

When you look back in history, you will find this principle stated in many different ways. You will also find that different people came to the awareness of this secret through different life experiences. Sooner or later, somehow, someone somewhere comes to the awareness of this fixture of life. It is my hope that the knowledge of this secret will propel you to begin to search and have greater understanding of the law that governs your life. Life is an electrifying adventure and we are all called to participate. Today, allow me to briefly share with you this secret and a personal story how I came to the awareness of this Law of life.


Let?s go back to June 2003. I was a final year student at the Copperbelt University, pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. During that year, I decided to give myself the challenge of reading the Bible, the whole Bible just for the sake if it. Later on, I began to target particular characters like Abraham, David, Soul, Joseph and the other great personalities whose inspirational lives fill the pages of the Holy Book. The teachings of Jesus were also a major focus.

I sought to draw parallels from the life experiences of these rousing personalities; hunting for the timeless lessons about life, which are relevant to modern man. This, I did as a matter of personal choice and initiative but little did I know that it was a decision that was going to change my life forever. It is amazing what impact a single decision can have on ones life and the lives of many others. It was during this time that I developed the habit of reading and this is the habit that has opened me up to a whole new world.

Up to now, I still can not cross the lines and connect the dots of exactly how this impacted my mind and my imagination. I hope I shall one day understand. All I know is that during this time, the faculties of my mind begun to stretch and I became so focused in my sense of purpose. My imaginative abilities began to sky rocket. For a moment, it seemed I was living in Fantasy Island. I began having vivid imaginations about past, present and my preferred future. To my amazement, a lot of these imaginations would because physical realities with startling precision. Everyday was like a confirmation of my most vivid imaginations on a wide range of things. I would be attending a church meeting and was amazed to hear my pastor talk about exact things I had been thinking about. I would often ask myself, is it coincidence? Am I deluding myself?

I think it was James Allen who said that only by much searching and mining, are gold and diamonds obtained. I was mining Gold and I didn?t know it. During my search, I stumbled upon James Allen?s Classic, as a man thinketh. It was this book that introduced me to the world of personal growth and development as we know it. Everything seemed to have come to full circle. I now understood. It has been 6 years since that time and with this knowledge, conscious personal growth and development has become my passion.

For those who are still wondering what this is secret is all about, I will take you back to 1960. A recording was done by a man named Earl Nightingale. It is a recording that has sold millions of copies and at the time of my writing is said the only Gold record ever achieved for the spoken word. In this recording, Earl Nightingale talks about the exact thing I was to come across almost half a century later. He called it the Strangest Secret in the world. The Strangest Secret in the world is that you become what you think about. This is the secret to life, success, failure and everything else.

Everything in the world and the world itself is resolved within your internal thought processes. All causation is mental, or more accurately, Spirit. This is why King Solomon exhorts us in the Book of the Proverbs, to guard our hearts with all diligence for out of the heart proceeds the issues of life. To quote the words of Carlyle a Scottish satirical writer, essayist, historian and teacher: But the thing a man does practically believe (and this is often enough without asserting it even to himself, much less to others); the thing a man does practically lay to heart, and know for certain, concerning his vital relations to this mysterious Universe, and his duty and destiny there, that is in all cases the primary thing for him, and creatively determines all the rest.

There are many people who have stated this more eloquently than I can, but I thought I should briefly share with you my story, where I am coming from and how this experience has impacted me. You become what you think about.

I now truly belief, that in the final analysis, everything in my life is really up to me. This is the gift of my Creator. Day after day, I am awed by this truth. The day that God gave me a free will, that is the day He trusted me enough to place my destiny in my own hands. He has given me all things that pertain to life and Godliness. Everyday, I am learning His ways, which are the expression of His Law. I am meeting people on a similar journey as mine and everywhere I look, I am finding support. I am constantly becoming MORE.

You become what you think about. Your deep rooted thoughts and beliefs are the script of the movie of your life. This goes much deeper than your conscious thoughts, by the way. It is those thoughts below your level of consciousness that express themselves in the life that you see. Take charge of your conscious thoughts, reprogram your sub consciousness thoughts and transform this beautiful thing called YOU. The people of the nations will see and in amazement exclaim: the gods have come to live among men.
